TOUR DETAILS

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Uganda and transfer to Kampala

You will be met at the airport by our Incredible Rwanda Uganda Tour guide who will transfer you to the hotel of your booking in Kampala. Time allowing you will be taken around to see the main features of the city before retiring to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

You will have an early breakfast and then set off on the Incredible Rwanda Uganda Tour for Murchison Falls National Park some 348km from Kampala. This journey will approximately take 6 hours with an enroute stopover at Nakitoma to visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to the white Rhinos. You will have a lunch break in Masindi town and proceed to the park to visit the magnificent top of the falls. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge of your booking.

Day 3: Game drive in Murchison & boat cruise on River Nile

You will have an early breakfast after which you will be taken to catch the ferry at 07:00am to the northern side of River Nile where you will have a game drive. You will be able to spot a range of game including; Giraffes, Jackson Hartebeest, Lions, Buffalo, elephant, Uganda Kobs, among other species. You will return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch after which you will go for a boat cruise at 03:00pm. You will see a variety of water animals to include crocodiles, Hippos, water birds and other dwellers including the rare shoebill stork. Many land animals will also be seen drinking on the river side. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, you will embark on a 9 hour drive Incredible Rwanda Uganda Tour route to Kibale National Park (441km) through the lush country side and magical scenery of the western rift valley and the Rwenzori Mountains before arriving in Fort Portal and later Kibale Forest National Park in the evening for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5: Chimp tracking and Bigodi Swamp, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park

After breakfast you will be taken to the Kanyanchu tourism center at 08:00 am for a briefing on the Chimpanzee tracking rules and procedures. You will after the briefing set off to track the chimpanzees and on the way see various species of monkeys before finally catching up with the chimpanzees. The activity takes 2–5 hours and one hour is available for you to interact with the Chimps and take photos. In the afternoon you will go for a nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland to see a variety of birds and monkey species and later drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park (110km for 3 hours) arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Game drive and boat cruise on Kazinga channel

Day six of the Incredible Rwanda Uganda Tour, set off early (about 6.30am) for a morning game drive, an awesome experience to spot the animals in their natural habitats. Expect to see the famous Big Five; Elephant, Buffalos, Lions, Bush bucks, Kobs, Giant forest hog, Hyenas leopards, antelopes, and Waterbucks as well as birds. You will return for breakfast and relax till lunch. In the afternoon you will take a launch cruise along the amazing Kazinga channel to see at close range the water animals to include Hippos, Buffalos, and Crocodiles. There is also a variety of bird species on the water banks especially the famous Shoebill, pelican and Jacana. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.

Day 7: Transfer to Ishasha Sector, Whole day Game Drive

After breakfast we drive through south through sunning savannah grasslands as we head to the southern sector of the park –Ishasha, a remote and beautiful extension of queen Elizabeth NP that is host to a large variety wildlife (this is a fabulous area in which to see the lions draped from the trees and nowhere in Africa do you stand a better chance of seeing this in the large low limbed fig tree of Ishasha ).

You will have a full day game drive in search for the tree climbing lions and other animal species such as the elephants, buffalos, leopards and many others and bird species. You will also visit the Uganda kob mating ground which is a defined area specifically used by kobs for challenging, enticing and mating adult rams defend a circle territory (30meters diameter) and depending on the season the mating ground can have 20 and more of these small. Dinner and overnight will at your lodge of booking.

Day 8: Boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi& transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Lake Bunyonyi has 26 islands which can be explored by boat. These islands are surrounded by the magical Kigezi highlands whose terrain and the level of their temperature has justified them as the Switzerland of Africa. The 5 – 6 hour boat ride offers you impressive views of the Lake flora and various bird species on the shores.

Along the shores are the local Bakiga and Batwa communities that will be amazing to interact with and learn about their history, culture and traditions. You will thereafter travel cross the border into Rwanda and head for the Volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge booked by the Incredible Rwanda Uganda Tour team.

Day 9: Travel to Kisoro for Batwa Experience, Visit Local Markets, Coffee Tour

You will have breakfast, and transfer to Kisoro. You will visit the Batwa people. The Batwa, are one of the last groups of short-statured people also known as ‘pygmy’ people, and until Bwindi Rainforest was gazetted as a National Park they lived a hunter gather lifestyle in the forest. They are now some of the poorest people in the world with a high infant mortality rate and low life expectancy. You will get to know how they live their life. You will visit the coffee makers, local markets and later cross to Parc De Volcanoes. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge of booking.

Day 10: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park, Cultural Experience in Iby’wachu cultural Centre

Day nine, the Incredible Rwanda Uganda Tour moment, have an early breakfast and be driven to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi to join other tourists for a briefing on Gorilla tracking at 08:00am. You will, after the briefing, be divided into groups of 8 persons and allocated guides to lead you into the forest in search for the respective Mountain Gorilla families.

The trekking may last for 2 –8 hours and upon encountering the gorillas you will be allowed to stay with them for a maximum of one hour. You will return to the hotel for lunch and in the afternoon be taken to visit the Iby’wachu cultural village to learn about the Kinyarwanda culture. You will spend the night at the lodge of your previous day.

Day 11:  Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu

You will have breakfast; you will go for golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park. You will assemble at the Park head quarter for a briefing on the Golden monkey tracking rules before going out to track them in the forest. Later you transfer to Lake Kivu. You will retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Boat Cruise on Lake Kivu, Hike on Congo Nile River trail

You will, after breakfast, go for a boat cruise on Lake Kivu to see water animals such as crocodiles and hippos as well as birds endemic to this region. You will meet the fishermen who will explain to you how they go about their trade and allow you to participate in the fishing. You will hike the Congo Nile River trail for 2-3 hours. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Travel to Kigali, Departure

You will after breakfast, transfer back to Kigali to catch up with your flight.

When to go gorilla tracking - gorilla trekking in Uganda & RwandaBEST TIME TO GO

Gorilla Viewing: Gorilla trekking can take place at any time of year with April/May and November being wetter. However, be aware that rain occurs all year round. For general game viewing safaris, the best time to go is during the dry season (between June and September).
