Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

You will be met at Kigali International Airport by your safari guide/driver who will transfer you to Akagera National Park while briefing you on the 7 Day Incredible Rwanda tour itinerary, arriving in the early afternoon. Have lunch and later go for a boat launch on the beautiful Lake Ihema to see Hippos, giant crocodiles and a profusion of water birds like the African fish eagle, papyrus Gonolek and the shoebill stork.

You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge booked for you.

Day 2: Game drive in Akagera and travel to Ruhengeri

We take off the second day of the 7 Day Incredible Rwanda tour with with you having an early breakfast and setting off for a game drive to catch up with the early risers plus large predators including lions and hyenas plus bushbuck, zebra, Elephants, giraffes, Buffaloes, cape elands, impalas, oribi and antelopes.

Return for lunch at the Lodge and then travel to Ruhengeri town near the Volcanoes National Park. You will have a tour of this town and also visit the vibrant local markets before retiring to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla Trekking – at the height of the 7 Day Incredible Rwanda tour highlights. You will have an early breakfast and move to the Park headquarters where you will receive a briefing on the rules for gorilla trekking and be allocated the gorilla group you will be trekking. You will, after the briefing, be led by the ranger guides into the forest to search for the gorillas in the Volcano Virunga Hills and the verdant Valley. Once traced, you will spend a maximum of one hour observing the gorillas in their natural setting. You will return to your lodge for lunch and later visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera in the late afternoon for a cultural experience. You will have dinner and overnight at your lodge of booking.

Day 4: Visit to Musanze cave, Dian Fossey

You will after breakfast transfer to the Musanze cave where you will have a unique experience of seeing different types of bats and to enjoy views of the twin lakes and wildlife attractions. You will have lunch and take a hike to Karisoke Research Centre established by Dian Fossey, an American primatologist who dedicated all her life conserving the primates. You will after being taken around this remarkable centre return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

You will, after breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The journey is 225km and takes about 6½ hours. You will have lunch en route and then check in at your lodge for relaxation until dinner time and overnight.

Day 6: Primate tracking

Chimpanzee Tracking to end the 7 Day Incredible Rwanda Tour beautiful adventure. You will have an early breakfast and transfer to the Park Headquarters for a briefing on Chimpanzee tracking. During the chimpanzee tracking you will also come across other primates such as Golden monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey, Angola colobus, Silver monkey, Hamlyn’s Monkey, Dent’s Mona Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, and Olive Baboon among others. You will also see various types of birds in the verdant flora of this ancient forest after which you will retire for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 7: Transfer back to Kigali and departure

You will after breakfast travel back to Kigali. Depending on the time of your departure flight you may have a brief Kigali City excursion to visit the Genocide memorial site and the colorful markets for souvenirs before being transferred to the Airport for your departure flight.

When to go gorilla tracking - gorilla trekking in Uganda & RwandaBEST TIME TO GO

Gorilla Viewing: Gorilla trekking can take place at any time of year with April/May and November being wetter. However, be aware that rain occurs all year round. For general game viewing safaris, the best time to go is during the dry season (between June and September).
