Gorilla Viewing: Gorilla trekking can take place at any time of year with April/May and November being wetter. However, be aware that rain occurs all year round. For general game viewing safaris, the best time to go is during the dry season (between June and September).

Itinerary

Day 1: Parc Nationale des Volcanoes

You will have an early breakfast and set off for Parc Nationale des Volcanoes. You will check in at the lodge of your booking, have lunch and take some rest. You will spend the rest of the day sightseeing and relaxing around the hotel till dinner time.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Pac des Volcanoes

You will have an early breakfast and report at the Park Headquarters for a briefing on the rules to be observed during Gorilla trekking. You will be allocated a Gorilla family to track and guides to lead you to the Gorillas. The tracking will take 2-5 hours. Once found, you will spend a maximum of one hour observing the gorillas in their natural setting. After the tracking you will return to the hotel for lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing at your hotel.

Day 3:Cross to Uganda, Visit Lake Burela

You will have breakfast and set off for Uganda. You will cross the border and visit Lake Burela before heading to Kisoro town for your dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking Adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will have an early breakfast and be driven to the Park Headquarters for a briefing at 7:30am about the rules of Gorilla tracking. After the briefing, you will set off for the Gorilla hunt in the thick jungle. The jungle is very lively with rich forest sounds. The trek ranges between 2 – 8 hours and you have one hour to stay with the Gorillas once sited. In the afternoon you can opt for a community walk among the Batwa people who used to live in the Bwindi forest before it was gazetted as a National Park and learn about their life and culture as a forest people. You will have dinner and overnight at your lodge of the previous day.

Day 5: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National park

You will have an early breakfast and head to Ishasha, which is the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park for a game drive. Ishasha is dominated by acacia woodland and scrubland and features the meandering Ishasha River, banked by a riparian forest. This part of the park is renowned for the tree-climbing lions that, if you are lucky, will be sighted resting up in the tree branches. You will have a picnic lunch and transfer to the northern sector of the park and check in at the lodge of your booking.

Day 6: Game drive & Boat launch in Queen Elizabeth

You will wake up early and with a packed breakfast go for an early morning game drive during which you will see Lions, various Antelope species, Elephants, Hyenas, Leopards and Buffaloes. You will then return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will take a 2-hour launch cruise on the Kazinga channel which connects Lakes George and Edward. This waterway is filled with schools of hippos, buffaloes and elephants at the banks. This launch cruise rewards you with a great opportunity to take photos, watch birds and see the water animals.

Day 7: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

You will after breakfast head to Kibale Forest National Park arriving in the early afternoon. On the Drive to Kibale National Park you will be able to enjoy an impressive sight of the legendary “Mountains of the Moon” which you will clearly see on the road to Fort Portal. You will have lunch in Fort Portal after which you will head to the Kibale National Park.

Day 8: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi swamp walk/Scenery viewing

After breakfast you will report at the Kanyanchu Tourist Centre at 08.00 am for a briefing before tracking the chimpanzees. The forest is only accessible on foot and the walk will provide you with the opportunity to also see a variety of other primates and animals as well as birds, and a variety of butterflies and other insects.

Here you will search for the wild chimpanzee, red-tailed monkey, black-and-white colobus monkey and many others. A guide will provide detailed explanations on the primates and the forest fauna and flora to ensure that your walk is both enjoyable and informative.

You will return to your lodge for lunch after which you will visit the unique Bigodi swamp eco-tourism site for a guided walk where you will see rare plants and bird species as well as beautiful butterflies and other insects. The rare birds will include the Great Blue Turacco, little Bulbul, RwenzoriTuraco and the Narina Trogon, among others. You will alternatively have a tour of the crater region around Ndali lodge to appreciate the awesome scenic beauty of this part of the world.

Day 9: Return to Kigali for departure
