Detailed 8-Day Uganda Gorilla & Nature Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls National Park

Your safari adventure begins with a warm welcome from our professional driver-guide at Entebbe International Airport or Kampala. After a briefing, you set off northward through Uganda’s scenic countryside, passing local villages, farmlands, and bustling roadside markets.

Your first major highlight is Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where wild rhinos roam freely. Accompanied by expert rangers, you will track southern white rhinos on foot, gaining insight into Uganda’s successful rhino conservation program. This intimate encounter offers exceptional photographic opportunities and sets the tone for the adventure ahead.

After lunch, continue to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and most dramatic national park. As you approach the park, landscapes open into vast savannah plains dotted with acacia trees and wildlife.

Accommodation: Park View Lodge or Fort Murchison Lodge
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Victoria Nile Boat Safari

Begin the day with an early morning game drive on the northern banks of the Nile, the prime wildlife area of Murchison Falls National Park. This region is renowned for its healthy populations of elephants, giraffes, lions, buffaloes, Uganda kob, hartebeest, and oribi. Leopards are often spotted resting in trees or hunting during early hours.

In the afternoon, enjoy one of Uganda’s most iconic activities — a boat safari on the Victoria Nile. The cruise takes you upstream toward the base of the thunderous Murchison Falls. Along the riverbanks, you will see hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and countless bird species, including African fish eagles, kingfishers, and herons.

Accommodation: Park View Lodge or Fort Murchison Lodge
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Top of the Falls – Transfer to Kibale Forest – Bigodi Swamp Walk

After breakfast, visit the Top of Murchison Falls, where the Nile explodes through a narrow gorge only seven meters wide before plunging into the Devil’s Cauldron. The views, sound, and power of the water make this one of Uganda’s most impressive natural landmarks.

You then begin a scenic drive southwest toward Kibale Forest National Park, traveling through changing landscapes of savannah, tea plantations, crater lakes, and rolling hills.

In the afternoon, enjoy a guided Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary walk, a community-run conservation project famous for birdlife and primates such as black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and olive baboons. The walk also offers insight into local culture and wetland conservation.

Accommodation: Kibale Forest Camp (Tents) or Chimpanzee Safari Lodge
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today features one of Africa’s most exciting primate experiences — chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest. With over 1,500 chimpanzees, Kibale is considered the best place in East Africa to observe these intelligent primates in their natural habitat.

After a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority guides, you will enter the forest, listening for pant-hoots and calls before encountering chimpanzees feeding, grooming, and swinging through the canopy.

After lunch, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most biodiverse savannah park. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy an optional evening game drive.

Accommodation: Bush Lodge (Tents) or Kazinga Wilderness Camp
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Kasenyi Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Start the day with a morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains, one of the best areas in Queen Elizabeth National Park for predator sightings. The open grasslands attract lions, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, and numerous antelope species.

In the afternoon, embark on a relaxing boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway linking Lake George and Lake Edward. The channel hosts one of the highest concentrations of hippos in Africa, along with crocodiles, elephants, and spectacular birdlife.

An optional evening game drive can be arranged for guests wishing to explore further.

Accommodation: Bush Lodge (Tents) or Kazinga Wilderness Camp
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Travel south to the remote Ishasha sector, famous for its rare tree-climbing lions, often seen resting in fig trees to escape the heat. This unique behavior is rarely observed elsewhere in Africa.

After the game drive, continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. The journey winds through misty hills, terraced farms, and forested slopes.

Accommodation: Broadbill Lodge or Buhoma Community Camp
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Community Visit

This is the highlight of your Uganda safari. After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you trek through dense rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family.

The trek can take between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements, but the reward is unforgettable — one magical hour spent observing gorillas at close range, watching them feed, play, and interact.

In the afternoon, enjoy a Batwa cultural community visit, learning about the traditions of Bwindi’s original forest inhabitants.
