Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park, located in southwestern Rwanda, is a biodiverse haven teeming with natural wonders and unique wildlife. One of the park’s highlights is its population of habituated chimpanzees, offering visitors the chance to embark on thrilling chimpanzee tracking expeditions through the dense forest. Guided by experienced rangers, visitors can trek to observe these intelligent primates up close, witnessing their social interactions and behaviors in their natural habitat. Additionally, Nyungwe is home to 12 other primate species, including the L’Hoest’s monkey and the playful black-and-white colobus monkey, providing ample opportunities for primate sightings and photography enthusiasts.

Beyond primate tracking, Nyungwe Forest National Park offers a variety of activities to immerse visitors in its rich biodiversity. Guided nature walks unveil the park’s remarkable flora and fauna, with opportunities to spot a diverse array of bird species, including numerous endemic and migratory birds. Canopy walks provide a unique perspective of the forest, allowing visitors to traverse suspended walkways high above the forest floor, offering panoramic views and the chance to spot wildlife from above. The best time to visit Nyungwe Forest National Park is during the drier months from June to September and December to February, when trekking conditions are optimal and wildlife sightings are more frequent.
